Chappie Angulo
Chappie Angulo (1928 – October 2, 2020) was an American-Mexican painter and illustrator whose work has been recognized with membership in Mexico’s SalĂłn de la Plástica Mexicana. Life Angulo was born Ruth Chapman Maruschok in the United States in 1928. In 1949, she began studying art, attending the Los Angeles City College and the University of California Los Angeles. In 1954, she moved to Mexico, where she studied at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda". When she finished her studies there, she went to England to study at the London Art Center, spending a year and a half drawing live models and working with plaster molds. Angulo lived in the Mexican state of Morelos. She died on October 2, 2020. Career Angulo began her art career in 1957 collaborating with what was then called the Museo de ArqueologĂa y EtnografĂa, located in the historic center of Mexico City. Max Miller (comedian)
Thomas Henry Sargent (21 November 1894 – 7 May 1963), known professionally by his stage name Max Miller and billed as The Cheeky Chappie, was an English comedian often considered the greatest stand-up of his generation. He came from humble beginnings and left school aged 12. At the outbreak of the First World War, he volunteered for the army. During his time in the forces, he started a troupe concert party. On leaving the army, he took up work as a light comedian, dancer and singer. He toured extensively, appearing in variety and revues, and by the early 1930s reached the top of the bill in the large music halls, including the London Palladium. He recorded many songs, some of which he wrote. He appeared frequently on radio and starred in 14 feature films. He was known for flamboyant suits and his wicked charm, and his risqué jokes often led to difficulties with the censors. He made his last recording in January 1963 and died four months later. Chappies is a brand of bubblegum introduced in South Africa in the late 1940s. In part because of its iconic "Did You Know?" facts printed inside every wrapper, Chappies has been South Africa's best-selling bubblegum for more than 50 years with about 2.5 billion pieces being sold each year. Overview Chappies was developed by Arthur Ginsberg, head of marketing at Johannesburg-based confectionery manufacturer, Chapelat Sweet Factory, from which the brand derived its name. Chappies was intended as a competitor for the well-established Wicks bubblegum, priced at two pieces for a penny versus Wicks' piece for a penny. By the late 1970s the brand had spread to Zambia, the Congo area, and Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and held a local market share of 90%.
